Air New Zealand to offer Nelson
– Palmerston North direct services
Air New Zealand is trialling a daily service between Nelson and Palmerston North from 12 July.
Air New Zealand’s Chief Operations Officer Bruce Parton says the airline has worked cooperatively with Palmerston North Airport to re-introduce this service which was last operated in 2008.
“We identified an opportunity for growth on our network and have worked with the team at Palmerston North airport to re-introduce this important regional link and help stimulate the local market,” says Mr Parton.
“This time round we are trialling two return services per day in primetime which we believe will be popular with business travellers as well as provide convenient connections between the two cities for leisure travellers,” says Mr Parton.
The 45 minute service between Nelson and Palmerston North will operate twice each weekday with one return service on Sundays. As a result, the last weekday Palmerston North – Wellington service will be retimed to operate later, making it a more viable option for business travellers.
The services will be operated by Air New Zealand subsidiaries Eagle Airways and Air Nelson utilising Beech 1900D and Bombardier Q300 aircraft.
Palmerston North Airport Chief Executive Darin Cusack says: “We have been working closely with Air New Zealand to explore new growth opportunities. We are looking forward to seeing this new service take off and hope that it will become a permanent fixture in the schedule.”
Fares are on sale now and start from $79 one way. To book, visit www.airnewzealand.co.nz
