Auckland Council’s plan tackles housing affordability

LGNZ: Auckland Council’s plan tackles housing affordability

15 march 2013

Local Government New Zealand today welcomed Auckland Council’s draft Unitary Plan, which has now opened for public engagement, and says the plan deals with the housing affordability issues facing Auckland comprehensively.

“The plan reflects a sustained and collaborative approach with its citizens to set Auckland well on the path to achieve Mayor Len Brown’s vision of being the most livable city in the world,” said LGNZ President, Lawrence Yule.

“LGNZ fully supports Auckland Council in its desire to make the plan effective as soon as it is notified.

“For the Government to criticise Auckland on the one hand for not taking action on housing affordability, and on the other denying Auckland the ability to do exactly that, is not acceptable,” said Mr Yule.

The consultation period closes on 31 May 2013.
