GOLDEN SUCCESS FOR MAINLAND CHEESE
Mainland Cheese has dominated the packaging awards at the 2013 NZ Champions of Cheese Awards picking up a number of gold
medals and the top packaging accolade.
Mainland’s Natural Cheese Sticks range was awarded the Caspack Champion Cheese Packaging Award, with each of the three varieties, Edam, Tasty and Colby receiving gold medals.
Launched late last year, Mainland Natural Cheese Sticks are individually wrapped for convenience and allow consumers to
take the flavour and goodness of their favourite Mainland cheese wherever they go.
Judges were impressed with the way the convenient and eye catching new format and packaging encouraged people to eat and
snack on cheese. “These cheese sticks are encouraging Kiwis to enjoy eating real cheese rather than processed. They are
a great, convenient source of protein and calcium for those on the run,” said Master Judge Russell Smith.
The newly redesigned Mainland Special Reserve range was also honoured with a gold medal for packaging design. The eye
catching packaging, which hit shelves in November last year, features a cheesecloth background with black and gold
detail. The clear, bold name ensures the product stands out on the shelf making the shopping experience easier for the
consumer. Judges commented that the new packaging design was clear and cohesive and the prominence of black and gold
really communicated that Mainland Special Reserve is a premium product.
Rachel Kelly, Mainland’s Senior Product Manager was delighted with Mainland’s award success which reinforce the positive
feedback and strong sales they have been receiving from consumers and retailers.
“Our ultimate aim is to get more consumers to enjoy our cheeses whether they are at home or out and about,” said Kelly.
“Our packaging for both of these products was designed with that in mind so these awards are further confirmation that
we have achieved that.”
Overall Mainland Cheese picked up an impressive medal haul at the 2013 NZ Champions of Cheese Awards. Mainland Epicure
and Organic Cheddar’s won gold medals in the Champion Cheddar category and a total of 6 silver and bronze medals were
awarded to a wide range of Mainland cheese across almost all categories.
