New RAV4 hits fast-growing SUV market with top safety rating
All variants of Toyota’s latest RAV4 offering has received a 5 star ANCAP safety rating up from 4 stars for the 2006-2012 model.
Equipped with dual frontal, side chest and side head (curtain) airbags the RAV4 also comes with a driver knee airbag as standard. There are also seat belt reminders for all seats.
Some versions of the 2013 RAV4 also offer adaptive front lighting, blind spot monitoring, daytime running lights and a reversing camera.
AA General Manager Motoring Services Stella Stocks says the latest result for the RAV4 takes the vehicle to a new level in terms of safety.
“The SUV market in New Zealand is growing strongly and it is very pleasing that we have another 5 star choice for motorists.
“It’s clear that safety features are becoming increasingly important to manufacturers and their customers. The popularity of vehicles like the RAV4 is high, so it’s great to see it has been further improved,” Ms Stocks says.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Group Manager of Access and Use Celia Patrick welcomes the introduction of new 5 star ANCAP safety rated RAV4s onto the market.
“As consumers become more aware of the importance of choosing the safest car they can afford, it’s pleasing to see manufacturers responding to those demands and improving safety features in their vehicles,” said Ms Patrick.
ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, all Australian state governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
