$5million bonus for Northpower Consumers

Northpower Media Statement
Date: 13 February, 2013
Subject: $5million bonus for Northpower Consumers

More than $5m is headed the way of around 50,000 Northpower consumers over the next few weeks. Included is a $1m industry rebate.

It is the second payout in three months and takes the total amount gifted this summer to more than $9m, after the Northpower Electric Power Trust (NEPT) gave every Northpower consumer in Kaipara and Whangarei an $80 tax free credit in December.

Combined, since 1993, an impressive $174m has been returned directly to Northpower consumers by the company and the NEPT – $94 million in Line Holidays and $80m in NEPT Distributions.

Northpower Chairman Warren Moyes says this level of profitability would not have been achieved without Northpower and the NEPT working so closely the past 20 years.

“The fact our Trust has been so supportive of our growth strategies has given Northpower the flexibility to branch out from being solely a local lines company to one of New Zealand’s leading multi-utility electrical contractors,” says Mr Moyes.

“Northpower is now ranked as one of the 200 largest companies in New Zealand. We have grown to become a company with annual revenue totalling nearly $250m which ultimately benefits our consumers.”

The 2013 Northpower Line Holiday means consumers across the Whangarei and Kaipara Districts will receive credits of between $35 and $145 on their March power accounts issued by electricity retailers operating on the Northpower network.

The credits are based on energy consumption for the previous 12 months. All consumers who were connected to the Northpower electricity network at 6am on Wednesday, February 13 are eligible.

Consumers who used between 2,000 and 15,000 units during the previous 12 months receive a $95 credit, those who used less than 2000 units receive $35, while people using more than 15,000 units receive $145.
