Redundancy arrangements at Summit Wool Spinners
Unions representing workers at Summit Wool Spinners have reached agreement regarding a number of matters with the company over redundancy compensation for workers.
The workers will receive redundancy payments as per their existing collective employment agreements. This varies based on the length of service for each worker.
A provisional finish date for the plant’s operations as Summit Wool Spinners is 28 February 2013. Workers leaving before that date will still be entitled to access their redundancy compensation. Workers staying to the last day of work will receive a payment of $1,000, or $500 if they are part time.
Other matters including time off for counselling and certificates of service have also been agreed.
The unions remain concerned over proposed redundancy payments for some employees. Specifically the unions are taking legal advice over redundancy compensation for workers made redundant in the past and then re-employed by the company.
