Vector Network News - Model Aircraft Takes Out Power Lines
Vector Network News
NETWORK SUMMARY
for week ending 3 February 2013
ELECTRICITY
Our electrical response
crews attended one car v pillar and seven car v poles
incidents during the week including an incident in Flat Bush
which turned out to be a car v fence and one in Avondale
South which was a car v car. In perhaps the most unusual
incident of the week, a remote controlled aircraft flew into
powerlines in Clevedon, causing an area outage. The model
aircraft did not survive the crash.
Crews also attended
four fires in Oranga, Shelly Park, Panmure and Milford.
Crews also attended three cases of lines being brought
down in Avondale, Mt Smart and Mt Wellington. Overheight
vehicles were the culprits in all three
incidents.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
Crews were called to a suspected smell of gas incident in Westmere, where they made the site safe and repaired a gas pipe.
Please take care around our gas network and call 0508 B4 U WORK (248 967) or 0800 B4 U DIG if outside Auckland.
Projects
Wairau Road 33kV Switchboard Replacement Project – Vector’s works that form part of the upgrade of the Wairau site are nearing completion. The new Wairau 33kV switchboard was livened in May 2012. With 32 bays in a single panel, it is now the largest straight line double bus-bar 33kV switchboard of its type in the world. The two story building was built using precast concrete tilt slab panels, which enabled rapid construction. The project also included the relocation of the 110kV circuits that supply Wairau from Albany to further improve network security. Cabling work within the substation site is now underway and will be completed during February. Following this, works to demolish and remove of the old outdoor substation will begin in March. Transpower’s work on this site should be completed in August, at which point the landscaping and final road sealing works will begin.
