NZ Wineries Whet Consumers’ App-Etites
A new range of smartphone apps are helping wine and food enthusiasts connect with wineries throughout New Zealand. The
applications, created by NZ Wineries, are designed to keep consumers up to date with the latest news, wine releases,
special offers and events in wine producing regions.
Graeme Bott, an emerging winemaker and founder of NZ Wineries, says the apps are a great way to bring the New Zealand
wine industry and consumers closer together.
“We wanted to make the engagement between wineries and shoppers/tourists seamless. Through our apps, we can send
instant notifications to our users informing them of wine updates in their specified region.”
The apps were created for some of New Zealand’s most well-known wine producing regions; Waiheke Island, Hawkes Bay, Martinborough, Marlborough and Central Otago. The aim is to provide information on all the wine and food hotspots in each region, as well as events, deals, tours and
transport.
“Our goal is to provide a simple, interactive and fun platform, bringing exclusive wine and food knowledge to the next
generation of wine and food lovers,” says Mr Bott.
Due to demand by locals and tourists, NZ Wineries have plans to release more features.
“We’ve had great response by both consumers and the winemaking community. The latest development is a booking feature,
which allows users to book tables for a particular restaurant straight from their phone.”
Due to the rapid uptake of smartphones, Mr Bott predicts the wine industry must become increasingly tech savvy to keep
up with consumer trends.
“We are excited to be starting 2013 with five wine regions and we’re getting ready to expand further across the
country.”
The free NZ Wineries apps are available on both iPhone and Android, and can easily downloaded from the iTunes and the
Google Play Stores.
