Six finalists contend for 2013 Dairy Woman of the Year title
The Dairy Women’s Network has announced the names of the six women who will progress into the final round of judging for
the 2013 Dairy Woman of the Year Award.
They are:
• Juliet MacLean, chief executive Synlait Farms Limited, Rakaia
• Justine Kidd, business manager BEL Group, Waipukurau
• Kath Taylor, dairy veterinarian and Mastitis consultant, VetSouth Limited, Winton
• Kathryn van den Beuken, farm owner/operator and key account manager AgITO, Rakaia
• Leonie Guiney, farm owner/operator, Fairlie
• Sarah Watson, farm supervisor Canterbury, MyFarm, West Melton.
Run by the Dairy Women’s Network and sponsored by Fonterra, the award includes a scholarship to the year-long Women in
Leadership course run by Global Women, worth $25,000.
Dairy Women’s Network Trust Board chair Michelle Wilson said the calibre of all entrants was exceptionally high.
“We received nominations from colleagues, partners and people who have never actually met the person they nominated –
but were so impressed by their influence and industry leadership they felt compelled to nominate them for this award.
“From grass-roots farmers to chief executives, all the finalists are very successful business women, passionate about
the dairy industry and each already playing a role in its future development and growth – the judging panel will again
have a difficult job deciding the winner,” said Mrs Wilson.
The finalists will be individually interviewed in February by a panel of five judges including Mrs Wilson representing
the Dairy Women’s Network, Yvonne McLean from Global Women, Sarah Kennedy, managing director of Fonterra Nutrition, Mark
Paine from DairyNZ, and 2012 Dairy Woman of the Year award winner Barbara Kuriger.
The 2013 winner will be announced at a gala dinner at the Dairy Women’s Network annual conference on 20 March in Nelson.
