New Year’s renovations resolutions boosted by The Block
New year’s resolutions to tackle home improvements are off to a flying start. Trades service Builderscrack.co.nz reported a record number of jobs posted by property owners in the first week of 2013. The company credits hit TV shows such as the The Block and the popularity of property shows on Choice TV and The Living Channel with inspiring people to turn their resolutions into renovation reality in their own homes.
“These shows give us all ideas and inspiration about what we can do to our homes, but it’s not often we have all the skills or time needed to carry out a renovation, so professional skill of electricians, tilers, plumbers are needed to help out,” said Keith Roberts of Builderscrack.co.nz
“A huge number of people at home over the holidays seized the opportunity to start home improvements or get on to repairs that have been ignored for some time, many more than the usual seasonal increase”.
47% more jobs were posted on the site by Auckland homeowners in the first week of 2013 compared to 2012 and growth nationally was 30%.
All kinds of trade skills are in demand from laying bathroom tiles to fixing up decks to large renovations. A Manurewa home owner who posted a major building job just before new year had several rapid responses and is in touch with several highly recommended builders about adding an extra storey to their home.
“We hope tradespeople will reap the rewards in 2013 of the burgeoning interest in home improvement, not just for the new year but as an ongoing trend,” added Roberts.
