Network SUMMARY for week
ending 16 December 2012
ELECTRICITY
Fine weather and higher temperatures marked a slight increase in electricity consumption over the past week, as air conditioners and heat pumps began in earnest.
The good weather kept the car v pole incidents down to a minimum - there were fewer car v poles incidents this week, four in total. These were in Otara, Mt Roskill, Mt Albert and Massey.
Crews were also called to attend a site in Parnell where a burst water main was causing water to run through electrical equipment, and to repair equipment in Albany North and Mangere.
Throughout the week crews were also requested to attend three fires in Otahuhu West, Mangere East and East Tamaki, in order to isolate the power and make the sites safe.
Crews also helped in an unusual dog rescue on Sunday night – a water pipe had burst under a house, running over extension leads and a dog had become tangled in these leads. Faults crew and Fire Service raced to the petrified pooch. The dog is fine but has been forced to wear the cone of shame.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There were three third party strikes on our network in Orakei, Birkenhead and Mt Roskill.
Faults crews also attended two sites during the week where there were suspected gas leaks; In Sandringham vandals had damaged a riser pipe and pulled a meter off the wall, and in Papakura Central a bent pipe was the cause. Fault crews made all sites safe and repaired the equipment.
Please take care around our gas network and call 0508 B4 U WORK (248 967) or 0800 B4 U DIG if outside Auckland.
