Kiwis Heading Online for Generous Gift Giving
Online retailers are likely to do well this retail Christmas season with more Kiwis than ever heading online to purchase gifts for friends and family. A recent survey commissioned by daily deal operator GrabOne showed that 93.5% of New Zealanders have purchased a gift online for family or friends over the past year.
The results also found we are spending plenty on gifts; 38.9% of Kiwis spend between $50 and $100 and 8.2% spend over $100 on gifts for family members. Only 0.4% do not usually buy gifts for family.
Kiwis spend considerably less on gifts for friends than family members with 62.4% indicating they typically spend between $20 and $50 and 27.9% spending up to $20.
GrabOne Marketing Director, Campbell Brown, says the survey results show New Zealanders are embracing the convenience and range of gifts available online.
“It’s not surprising to see more Kiwis jumping online to purchase gifts for loved ones,” he says. “An extensive range, crowd-free shopping without the tedious hunt for a parking space, the incredible bargains that can be found online, and ultimately the convenience, are all making online shopping a more appealing option for busy Kiwis.”
With just 33 days until Christmas, GrabOne is already seeing an increase in customers searching for gifts and has recently refined their online retail offering Store to enable them to work with more merchants than ever before and improve on delivery times to Grabbies (GrabOne customers). As well as Christmas deals being ramped up, GrabOne now offers a Wish List feature (allowing Grabbies to build a list of their favourite deals across all GrabOne sites) and customised Gift Cards loaded with GrabOne credit.
GrabOne surveyed 7,177 customers across New Zealand in August 2012. Almost three quarters of respondents (74.1%) had purchased something from GrabOne websites as a gift.
