Invercargill Chartered Accountant Appointed New Chairman of NZ CA Limited
NZ CA Limited has announced the appointment of a new chairman, Invercargill chartered accountant, Graham Dick, and the election of two new directors – Tony Maginness and Toni Owen - at the group’s Annual General Meeting. The appointments took effect from 9 November 2012.
Graham Dick has taken over as chairman from Te Awamutu chartered accountant, Merv Gyde, who has retired from NZ CA’s board. Mr Dick said, “The board and I would like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution Merv Gyde has made to the board as a director 12 for years and, in the past six years, as chairman. Merv’s strong leadership not only had the group grow to 30 member firms, but also saw the group commission the GrowthGuide 2012 research report that surveyed 969 small to medium sized businesses nationwide to identify issues to help SMEs build in the country’s economic recovery.
Managing partner of Invercargill chartered accountancy firm, McIntyre Dick & Partners, Graham Dick provides advice to a wide range of commercial entities with particular emphasis on business succession and improving business performance. A member of the Institute of Directors and the New Zealand Institute of Management, Graham has had extensive community and commercial involvement in the Southland region including Export Southland, Southland Chamber of Commerce, Southland YMCA, and the Ascot Park Hotel Brass and Brass Bands Association of New Zealand.
New director Toni Owen is a director in Whakatane chartered accountancy firm Focus Chartered Accountants. She specialises in business consulting and development, strategic and succession planning for rural and commercial clients. She was a director of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) from 2007-2010, chairman of the Eastern Bay Energy Trust from 1999 to 2006 and a director of Energy Options Ltd from 2011 until the business sold in July 2012. Toni is a member of the Institute of Directors and the New Zealand Trustees’ Association.
Tony Maginness is a partner in McDonald Vague, one of New Zealand’s leading business recovery firms. He specialises in restructuring, liquidation, receivership and crisis management. Tony also has international financial experience having spent almost five years in Shanghai and Singapore providing private banking services to international investors. Tony is also a member of the Institute of Directors.

NZ CA chairman, Graham Dick says, “We welcome these two new directors to the board and we look forward to their contributions to the group.”

Its mission is to help its members improve their business by continually exceeding their clients’ expectations and also to develop new business opportunities. There are currently 30 member firms practising in 40 locations throughout the country.
