Fifteen trophies were announced at the second annual Marlborough Wine Show awards dinner held in Blenheim on Saturday night, with the O-I Champion Wine of the Show awarded to Lawson’s Dry Hills for their Pinot Noir 2010.
A hundred and fifty guests were treated to all 39 gold medal-winning wines during the evening while witnessing the trophy announcements and presentations. Four Sauvignon Blanc trophies were awarded, reinforcing the show’s objective of focussing on sub regions, vintage and wine style.
Lawson’s Dry Hills also won the trophy for Champion Gewurztraminer, making the Marlborough Wine Show a highly successful event for this family-owned producer. Commenting on their success, Barbara Lawson said “We have always achieved accolades and awards for our aromatic wines but winning a trophy for our Pinot Noir followed by Champion Wine of the Show was magnificent recognition of the effort in producing this wonderful wine.
Saint Clair Family Estate took home two trophies – one for Chardonnay and one for a 2012 Sauvignon Blanc in addition to two gold medals in the Pinot Noir classes. Villa Maria also excelled with four gold medals and the trophy for Champion Pinot Noir 2009 and older.
