Flip’s tipping point - opening up broadband

Flip’s tipping point - opening up broadband to more New Zealanders

As New Zealand's only current provider of residential free broadband, Flip believes the concept of free internet access for every Kiwi is a project worthy of everyone’s support.

"Although there would be numerous practicalities to address, we're aligned with Kim Dotcom's intention to provide a better internet service for everyone in New Zealand," says Scott Hoogerbrug, Flip's Head of Marketing.

"His plan will enable us to lift the data caps off our free service. These caps are only in place because of the high cost to New Zealand of international capacity, and will be removed immediately we have access to such a service," he continues.

More than 70% of customers who have signed up for Flip since launch two months ago are first-time broadband users, a much higher level than other providers.

“Flip has created a tipping point for the over 400,000 New Zealand households with no internet access or only dial-up. A key factor in creating the digital divide in New Zealand is cost. There are people who can afford it and many who can’t.”

“Access to a decent internet service shouldn’t be a luxury; it’s become a key tool for children’s learning and for finding employment, for example” says Hoogerbrug.
