Angel investors honour a champion
Phil McCaw, Managing Partner of Movac has become the fourth Arch Angel of the Angel Association of New Zealand. McCaw
received the accolade at the New Zealand Angel Summit this week in Wellington.
Angel Association Chair Dr Ray Thomson said “the award of Arch Angel was an acknowledgement Phil McCaw’s extraordinary
contribution to the angel investing industry.
“McCaw has been a tireless champion for angel investment. He sincerely believes in its potential to have a profound
impact on New Zealand’s economic prosperity.”
Angel Association Executive Director Suse Reynolds said “Phil has been unstintingly generous with his time and support
to individual angels, entrepreneurs and others involved in growing the profile and impact of this inspirational
investment asset class. Phil was in inaugural member of the Angel Association of New Zealand and was Chairman for two
years from 2010 to 2012.”
The fifth annual Angel Summit in Wellington was attended by over 100 delegates including investors from New Zealand,
Australia, the United States and Scotland. For the first time the Summit included an investment showcase in association
with the local angel network, Angel HQ, where 12 high-growth companies, all with global aspirations, pitched to a packed
house of investors.
Angels invested $14 million across 43 deals involving young New Zealand companies in the first half of 2012. Over $230
million has been invested into young companies by angels since 2006.
