Ziptrek Ecotours ‘zips up’ another tourism award
The company that launched New Zealand’s first zipline tour has won highly-acclaimed recognition in the adventure capital for its outstanding tourism success.
Ziptrek Ecotours Queenstown was announced winner of the ‘Tourism, Activities and Events’ category at the Westpac Chamber of Commerce business awards on Saturday night (October 27).
The awards celebrate the resort town’s business excellence, passion and success, with honours given every alternate year to those who have contributed significantly to the region.
The company is now in its third year of operation and director Trent Yeo said it was humbling to collect the award on behalf of his team.
"It's been a great journey in a short amount of time,” he said. “We’ve developed an amazingly vibrant team who excel at the work they do because they love the concept of Ziptrek Ecotours.
“Significant growth in what would be considered a tough tourism environment is largely due to their commitment. It’s time to celebrate!”
Ziptrek Ecotours maintains that sustainable business practice has provided the organization with a differentiator in the tourism marketplace. This has been recognised with the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Award (2010), Qualmark Enviro Gold accreditation (2011) as well as winning the Fairfax Sustainable 60 Awards (2011) Marketplace category.
“To win a tourism award in a place as competitive as Queenstown is a really great pat on the back from our peers,” said Mr Yeo. “It highlights that while we are working with a sustainability ethos, we are really just doing good business.”
Ziptrek Ecotours also recently received recognition for its contribution and commitment to growing the Asian tourism market in New Zealand. The team achieved equal second place for the best submission in Auckland Airport’s Asian Marketing Strategy competition.
“It is hard to deny the effect that the Asian markets will have on the visitor mix of New Zealand,” said Mr Yeo. “The more we understand about the markets, the more we will have an edge in delivering an effective New Zealand experience.”
In a move to help innovative New Zealand tourism operators develop business from Asia, Auckland Airport launched the competition and it’s ‘Tourism Asia Marketing Fund’ as part of its Ambition 2020 initiative, and invited all New Zealand-based tourism operators to participate.
