Liquorland Nelson Nabs National Award as Franchisee of the Year
Liquorland Nelson has been awarded Liquorland’s Gold Franchisee of the Year Award at the company’s annual conference
this month, a national accolade which recognises the store’s achievements over the past year.
Owners Gavin Snowball and Cheryl Scott are delighted with the recognition the store has achieved since they took over
the franchise in September 2011. “We’re the only locally owned liquor outlet in Nelson City, and our philosophy is to
look after our customers with a high level of consistent, personal service. It can be hard work being so hands on all
the time, but the fantastic support we get from locals makes it really worthwhile,” says Gavin.
Cheryl’s background as a trained chef and Gavin’s years of experience in hospitality have transferred well into liquor
retailing, with plenty of expertise to draw from when it comes to recommending the perfect drop to customers.
“Liquorland is all about capturing and celebrating the special moments in Kiwis’ lives, and the day to day contact we
have with customers in store is what we really love about the job. Over the past year we’ve also increased our product
range, while remaining price competitive,” adds Gavin.
Liquorland CEO Rod Gibson says the win demonstrates how businesses in any region can thrive with the right approach,
despite the tough economic conditions. “There are approximately 80 Liquorland stores around New Zealand, so Gavin and
Cheryl have certainly outdone themselves by winning this award.”
“Their clear business strategy, strong community focus, and extremely high standards in both customer service and in
store execution, has led to phenomenal growth across all key measures. Liquorland Nelson is a great example of what
committed and excellent retailing can do,” says Gibson.
