Big is Good at Hardware Awards
Hardware retailer Mitre 10 has claimed two top spots in the 2012 Hardware Awards as well as having finalists in every store and individual category.
Mitre 10 MEGA Masterton was the Retail Store of the Year (under 4,000m2) while Mitre 10 MEGA Petone secured the coveted prize of Trade Store of the Year, following on from their success last year when it was named Store of the Year (over 4,000m2).
General Manager Marketing Dave Elliott says the results provide an excellent snapshot of Mitre 10 New Zealand’s strength in the industry.
“The 2012 Hardware Awards were another strong indication of Mitre 10’s continued consumer trust, following on from Mitre 10 being voted the most trusted brand in New Zealand in home improvement retailing in 2011 and 2012.
“With our network of over 100 stores nationwide, Mitre 10 is twice the size of our nearest rival. To come out on top in these categories reflects Mitre 10’s dedication to customers and emphasises the high standards of our in store teams. The teams in the winning stores have done a great job for us and set a benchmark for our other stores to match.” Mr Elliott said.
Other Mitre 10 and Mitre 10 MEGA stores were recognised in the 17th year of the annual awards. Mitre 10 Remarkables Park was a finalist in the Retail Store of the Year (under 4,000m2) category, while both Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin and Mitre 10 MEGA Mount Wellington were awarded finalist positions in the Retail Store of the Year (over 4,000m2) category.
Members of Mitre 10’s staff were also recognised during the ceremony, with Mitre 10 MEGA Hamilton’s Terry Wilson a finalist in the Retailer of the Year category and Damien Clarke from Mitre 10 MEGA Albany awarded a finalist position in Young Retailer of the Year.
“Our customers tell us they enjoy our Mitre 10 MEGA store formats and product range. The success of these elements has led to a nationwide refresh and re-image of our Mitre 10 stores.
“We are capturing elements from our highly successful Mitre 10 MEGA stores nationwide for alterations in our mid-size stores,” Elliott said.
The Hardware Awards are designed to recognise the achievements of New Zealand’s retailers in the hardware, builders’ supply and home décor stores. The Awards reflect on overall success in New Zealand’s finest hardware retail stores.
