Wayne Boyd and Richard Ballantyne Honoured by the Institute of Directors
The Institute of Directors in New Zealand (IoD) today announced the 2012 recipients of their Distinguished Fellow Award - Wayne Boyd and Richard Ballantyne.
The Distinguished Fellow Award is the IoD's highest accolade. It is awarded annually to members who have sustained a distinguished career as a director; or who have given outstanding participation and services to the IoD or eminent or special contributions to the community or business.
“Both Wayne and Richard are deserving recipients having made outstanding contributions to the organisations they have served, their communities and New Zealand,” says IoD President, Denham Shale.
“Wayne has had a long and distinguished career as a director, including as chair of some of New Zealand’s most prominent companies. He has guided organisations through significant periods of change including the separation of Telecom, the corporatisation of Meridian and the public float of Freightways. Wayne has also used his extensive legal experience, financial knowledge, vision and leadership to give back to the community, serving on the boards of many not-for-profit organisations such as SPARC, NZ Hockey and the New Zealand Blood Service.”
“Richard has been a major part of Christchurch’s iconic department store Ballantynes for over 40 years, 16 of those as Managing Director. He is also a driving force behind business and industry in Christchurch. Following the earthquakes he has shown his commitment to the city through his strong leadership in the rebuild of the CBD. Richard is a Life Member of the New Zealand Retailers Association and a past President of the New Zealand Retailers Association, the Canterbury Promotion Council (now Canterbury Marketing) and the Canterbury division of the New Zealand Institute of Management. As well as giving back to the business community through his involvement with these and other groups, Richard continues to be very active in the wider community. He currently sits on the boards of the Cholmondeley Foundation and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.”
“Both Wayne and Richard display the attributes that it takes to excel as a director in New Zealand – integrity, leadership, commitment, courage, forward thinking and a superb ability to not only deal with huge change but to drive it and use it to the advantage of the organisation. They are great role models for the governance community and we are pleased to award them the honour of Distinguished Fellow,” Mr Shale says.
Richard Ballantyne and Wayne Boyd join 57 other outstanding New Zealanders as Distinguished Fellows of the Institute of Directors. A full list (including those who have passed away) can be found at www.iod.org.nz
