2013 Ericsson Application Awards
2013 Ericsson Application Awards
The 2013 Ericsson Application Awards. Ericsson is calling out to New Zealand students and small and medium sized enterprises to develop an Android App on the theme of “Apps for City Life” for a chance to win EUR 25,000 first prize.
Ericsson is looking for enterprising New Zealand developers to get creative with an idea for an App that improves City Life.
Last year 143 teams from 50 countries took part, this resulted in 242 submissions; unfortunately there was no NZ entry among them. This year the prize money has increased and this is a real opportunity for Kiwi developers to show their ingenuity.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Apps for City Life”, supporting Ericsson’s vision for a Networked Society in which – through a combination of mobility, broadband, the cloud, applications and services – anything and everything is connected.
To
support developers Ericsson offers Application Programming
Interface tools, which allow better access to network
capabilities, a recent example is Geo Location Messaging API. Anyone
with a great idea can partner with someone with more
technical knowhow – innovation can come from many
different corners, not just tech experts. One individual
used Ericsson's APIs to build an app that tracked potholes
in Moscow, and posted the trouble spots to the authorities
for repairs.
Last year’s winner, produced an App to help
disseminate health care information services in Africa and
the student prize went to a collaborative painting tool. Submissions are due on 28 February
2013.
