ELECTRICITY
There was a slight surge in power at around 3.50am on Sunday morning as televisions, heaters and kettles were switched on in readiness for the All Blacks v South Africa game in Johannesburg.

The start of Daylight Saving has seen a reasonable drop in peak demand during the week from 1400 MWH to 1285 MWH.

The high spring winds were responsible for three outages caused by line strikes. One was caused by one line striking another, another was caused by branches blowing into lines at Omaha, and the third outage was caused when a helium balloon cord touched high voltage lines in Pomaria Road.

There were five car v pole incidents over the weekend at Schnapper Road, Blockhouse Bay, Albany, Hill Park and Te Atatu.

Crews attended fires in Otahuhu, Orewa, Manurewa, Kumeu, Pt England and Auckland airport in order to isolate the electrical supply for fire crews.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There were three third party strikes on our gas distribution network this week – one in Titirangi, another in Waipuna and a further one in Narrowneck. In all cases fault crews made sites safe and repaired the equipment. Please take care around our gas network and call 0508 B4 U WORK (248 967) or 0800 B4 U DIG if outside Auckland.
FIBRE
Vector Fibre experienced a loss of service on Thursday last week when a sub-contractor cut through a fibre cable at Chivalry Road on the North Shore.

PROJECT UPDATE
Vector is working on upgrading electricity cables in the Mt Roskill area.

The work is being carried out in two portions, the first of which began at the SH20 / Dominion Road intersection, down Dominion Road to Howell Crescent, through Howell Crescent into Richardson Road, and up Richardson road to White Swan road.

The second portion will follow the cycleway that runs alongside SH20, from the SH20/Dominion Road intersection to the SH20 Hillsborough off ramp.

The aim of the overall project is to improve network reliability and ensure that customers continue to receive a secure power supply.

The work is planned to be completed before 31 December 2012. The first part of the work will be carried out in the middle of the road, in sections, and should only affect the road outside properties for a short amount of this time. The work will not affect access to properties. The second part will take place in the cycleway alongside SH20.

This project should not affect power supplies in the area in any way.
