Minister of Finance to open major accounting conference

Media release
26 September 2012

Minister of Finance to open major accounting conference

Hon. Bill English, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, will deliver the opening address at CPA Congress, a major conference being hosted by global accounting body CPA Australia in Auckland on 17-18 October.

The conference line-up also features a who’s who of New Zealand’s business community, including leading businesswoman Dame Jenny Shipley, commentator Bernard Hickey, Xero founder Rod Drury, Wynyard Group Chief Executive Officer Craig Richardson and Contiki founder John Anderson.

2012 marks the first time CPA Congress is being held in New Zealand. This year’s schedule sees the event travelling to 13 cities around the world, including London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. The conference theme is ‘Your guide through uncharted territory’, a reference to the current global economic environment and the associated opportunities and risks facing today’s public, private and not-for-profit organisations.

CPA Australia Country Manager for New Zealand, David Jenkins, says he is delighted to have secured such a stellar line-up. “CPA Congress aims to inspire delegates and give them the tools and knowledge they need to face the uncertain future with confidence. We’ve gathered a leading group of local business experts together who will deliver this in a way that is relevant to the New Zealand market.”
