Honda targets six million cars annually by FY2017
Providing “good products with speed, affordability, and low CO2 emissions” is the key direction for Honda worldwide, according to CEO Takanobu Ito. It is with this direction that Honda will strive to almost double automobile sales to six million and reach 39 million total products sold within five years.
Overall, the future looks bright for Honda globally with an expansion of their mini and small car lineup; the introduction of “Earth Dreams Technology”; new hybrid systems; a new fuel cell vehicle; and an array of exciting new sports models.
Integral to providing this new lineup at affordable products is Mr. Ito’s streamlining of operations to achieve the best specifications at competitive costs, providing customers with great products at reasonable prices. Three key initiatives driving this global operational reform are: 1) concurrent development across all six regions, 2) adoption of locally optimised design drawings and 3) improvement of production efficiency.
Locally, Honda New Zealand has bounced back from the operational challenges last year, brought about by the Japan earthquakes and Thailand flooding. Already CRV and Euro Civic launches have been met with great customer feedback and the sales to match.
Graeme Seymour, Managing Director for Honda New Zealand remarks “this is an exciting time for Honda New Zealand. We have just launched two new vehicles into the two of the largest market segments, as well as improving value for money across the range.”
When asked which vehicles in the new global lineup we can expect in New Zealand Mr. Seymour says “we expect a good mix of efficient, sporty and fun models in the coming years to complement our existing great lineup. Watch this space.”
