Sacred Hill wins multiple golds at Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards
Sacred Hill Vineyards has won five gold medals at the Hawke’s Bay A Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards, four for the winery’s red blends.
Sacred Hill came out on top in the Merlot Class, winning three of the six gold awards presented for its Brokenstone,
HALO and Orange Label wines.
In the Museum Class, Sacred Hill took out two golds, one for the 2007 Riflemans Chardonnay and the second for the 2007
Helmsman.
Sacred Hill chief winemaker Tony Bish says the winery is delighted that their wines are being widely recognized, with so
many awards this year.
“To produce four Gold Medals from our Gimblett Gravels vineyard across three different vintages and four different price
points is a stunning result”, says Tony. “Our Special Selection reds are consistently receiving outstanding
endorsements, but it is exceptionally rewarding to see two Gold Medals for our more affordable wines.”
“Our Riflemans Chardonnay has always been a favourite and the 2007 Gold Medal result confirms our recommendation that
although temptation often challenges us, cellaring will be greatly rewarded.”
The awards are organized by the Hawke’s Bay A Society. The committee is made up of Wine Industry and Hawke’s Bay A Society representatives. The unique regional awards is the largest regional wine competition in New Zealand. Entries
are received from over 90 per cent of Hawke’s Bay Wineries which also includes multinational wine makers with vineyards
in and out of Hawke’s Bay.
