Tauranga Maori Business Association and Tauranga Chamber of Commerce to sign Memorandum of Understanding
Auckland, 6th September 2012 - The Tauranga Maori Business Association (TMBA) and the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce are to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which promotes greater co-operation and a sharing of ideas and resources.
Announcing this today, Association Chair Buddy Mikaere and Chamber Chief Executive Max Mason said it was the culmination of discussions between the two organisations over the past several months and the document has now received the blessing of the boards of both organisations.
Mr Mikaere said that it made sense for the two network organisations to work together co-operatively.
“While the Tauranga economy is reasonably lively and vibrant, it could be further enhanced by finding ways to attract new business into the city. One way might be by Maori and Pakeha businesses working together to provide top quality services and memorable retail and adventure experiences to the summer cruise ship market. On the basis of known vessel movements, this is expected to show a big increase in the 2012/2013 season,” says Mikaere.
For his part, Mr Mason says that through working together Chamber members might benefit from gaining a better understanding of Maori culture and the Maori history of Tauranga, which will help with giving their businesses a point of difference and a more broad appeal.
Mr Mason is to address the Te Hekenga National Maori Business Networks Conference on 12 – 13 September and the signing of the MOU document will take place in a short ceremony at the end of his speech on the morning of 12 September.
