More than just a great result
In congratulating Port of Tauranga on an excellent year end result, Tauranga Chamber of Commerce pointed out that it wasn't just shareholders who should be pleased.
CEO Max Mason said, "Our industries based on population growth, such as residential construction, are flat, and kiwifruit is working through a tough time, as is retail. So to have such a positive result is evidence of strength in our regional economy. We should remember Port of Tauranga isn't just a business. It is the tip of an ice berg comprising a North Island based ecosystem of infrastructure, transport and logistics, producers and manufacturers, contractors and services. The productivity and success of the port, has a direct impact on literally thousands of other businesses across the nation. Add to that the 55% shareholding of the Regional Council which benefits ratepayers and that's a substantial number of people who should celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Port of Tauranga."
