Tough competition for workplace literacy award
This week, 10 Kiwi organisations compete for the 2012 Skills Highway Award, which celebrates successful workplace
literacy training.

announced at the ANZ New Zealand & EEO Trust Work & Life Awards 2012 dinner this Thursday night (30 August) in Auckland.
New Zealand, like many other countries, has a sizeable minority in the workforce who face literacy and numeracy
challenges. Research shows about four in every 10 employees have difficulty with reading, writing, maths and
communication. The reasons for this skills shortage vary – young school leaving age, learning difficulties, low
confidence, speaking English as a second language.
This year’s Skills Highway Award entrants are proof that workplace literacy training can improve employee skills, change
