SBS Bank Appoints New Chairman
SBS Bank is pleased to announce that John Ward has been appointed as its 17th Chairman following the recent retirement of Acton Smith.
Mr Ward, who had been SBS Bank’s Deputy Chairman for the past four years, said he was looking forward to the challenge of becoming Chairman.
“It really is a wonderful opportunity to carry the baton for an organisation which is truly committed to its members and one which is an integral part of many strong communities throughout New Zealand.
“At SBS Bank I’ve had the opportunity to work with an experienced board and we are looking forward to both the challenges and opportunities that are in front of us.”
SBS Bank Chief Executive Ross Smith said Mr Ward’s selection as Chairman would be seen positively by the community as the organisation continued to build on the legacy left by Acton Smith.
“John is a well respected business leader. He’s been on the SBS Bank Board for over 10 years, is a Director of a number of entities and is currently the Chancellor of the University of Otago.
“John carries with him a wealth of experience and knowledge and a high level of respect within the business community.”
Other appointments included Jeff Walker to the position of Deputy Chairman and the appointment of Christchurch businessman Alec Neill to replace retired Director Acton Smith.
