Green Party comment on Solid Energy's readiness for sale
“The Government’s admission that Solid Energy isn’t ready for sale because of uncertainties over its future revenue casts into doubt whether the other energy companies are ready to be sold,” said Green Party Co-leader Russel Norman.
“Mighty River Power’s future revenue is highly uncertain while the issue of its water rights remains unresolved, so how can it be ready for sale?
“Meridian Energy also faces huge uncertainty over the future of its contract with its primary customer, the Tiwai Point smelter, which could have major ramifications for the revenue of all electricity companies.
“Solid Energy has already spent over $130,000 so far preparing itself to be sold. This has been an unnecessary waste of money on a policy Kiwis oppose,” said Dr Norman.
