Orbit Travel Auckland appoints new General Manager
20 August 2012 - Orbit Corporate Travel, Auckland has announced the appointment of Regan Mitchell as its new General Manager.
“We’re thrilled to have someone with such a depth of travel management experience join our team,” says Brendan Drury, Orbit Auckland CEO. “Regan’s background mixes solid operational, financial, sales & technology experience with broad travel, tourism and retail industry experience.”
Beginning his career in retail marketing at DFS Galleria, Christchurch, Regan progressed to start up and head Regency Duty Free in Wellington as Retail Manager, growing the operation to encompass two stores in the capital.
Moving into Travel Management in May 2008, Regan joined HRG (previously known as BTI / Signature) as Senior Account Manager based in Wellington, working with Government and non Government accounts. Regan was then promoted to Head of Business Development across New Zealand as the business transitioned to Atlantic Pacific American Express ( APX).
Regan is passionate about the future direction of an industry he has been dedicated to over the last 18 years. “Travel is an exciting, dynamic industry, that is forever evolving, whether that be through airlines, hotels or the technology products on offer, “ says Regan. “Having spent the last 18 years in the travel and tourism industry, I don't think any one day has ever been the same. That’s where I draw the excitement for heading to work each day.”
Regan feels that his in-depth knowledge of business operations, combined with a strong sales and marketing ethos and strength in managing and implementing technology solutions will be critical to leading the Auckland Orbit business into the future. “A great part of working in the corporate industry is being an extension of the clients business and the ability to negotiate, make recommendations or introducing technology which has a positive impact on the bottom line. It is very rewarding to be able to demonstrate travel savings via management reporting and allowing the client to achieve the necessary profits or goals they have set.”
When he is able to take a break from his dedication to corporate travel management, Regan excels in cricket, where he has won the Sir Richard Hadlee Scholarship and has belonged to the Canterbury and New Zealand Cricket Academies.
