iSUBSCRiBE Announces the Return of the Maggies in 2012 – John Mcclintock to Chair the Judging Panel for the Maggies
Nominations are now open for The Maggies 2012; a national poll to recognise and celebrate the best New Zealand magazine covers of the past year.
Initiated in the UK four years ago and launched in New Zealand in 2010 by leading magazine and newspaper subscription business, iSUBSCRiBE, the awards were designed to help improve the profile and popularity of the magazine publishing industry. The high profile competition is supported by New Zealand’s magazine trade body, Magazine Publishers Association New Zealand.
In 2011, Good Magazine (December/January 2011) cover, featuring a stunning image of a handmade pohutukawa wreath evoking the Christmas spirit, was crowned winner of The Maggies 2011 – Magazine Cover of the Year.
John McClintock, Executive Director of the Magazine Publishers Association New Zealand, will return to Chair the panel of judges for The Maggies 2012. The panel of industry heavyweights includes:
• Andrew Burge, CEO & Founder of iSUBSCRiBE Pty Ltd
• Lindsey Dawson, creator of three major women’s titles in New Zealand More, Grace and Next and winner of the MPA Lifetime Achievement Award 2009
• Jude Dobson, TV Presenter and Producer
• Rachel Glucina, New Zealand Herald Columnist
• Gideon Keith, Creative Director at Strategy Auckland
• John McClintock, Executive Director of Magazine at MPANZ
• Paula Ryan, founder of Fashion Quarterly and Simply You and winner of the MPA Lifetime Achievement Award 2010
Described by HELLO magazine in the UK as “The magazine version of The Oscars”, The Maggies is a national consumer award that celebrates the best magazine covers of the past year. The awards are open exclusively to New Zealand print magazines, and feedback from publishers of the inaugural year last year was extremely positive. The first two years of The Maggies in New Zealand have seen the Awards grow exponentially; with publisher entries increasing by 45% and consumer voting rising by 33%.
The judges will select a short list from the nominated covers, which will be put to public vote from 22nd October via www.themaggies.co.nz, and the winners will be announced in late November. While there is no formal entry fee, publishers are encouraged to make a voluntary donation to The Maggies chosen charity, The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. The NZBCF is the country’s foremost breast cancer education and awareness organisation.
The public will be incentivised to vote for their favourite magazine cover with a reward of a $5 iSUBSCRiBE gift voucher – a stark contrast to other public polls, in which participants pay to vote. The voucher may be redeemed against iSUBSCRiBE’s entire range of magazine and newspaper subscriptions. In addition, $1 from every subscription sold using the iSUBSCRiBE gift vouchers will be donated to The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
ENDS.
