Cloud Experts Gather in Auckland for Evolve.Cloud Event
(Auckland, New Zealand – 13 August 2012)
Key figures in the cloud industry will gather at the EVOLVE.Cloud Security Conference, hosted by Trend Micro, in Auckland on 14 August to tackle the major issues surrounding the cloud.
The event brings together local and global experts, analysts, and leaders across industry to examine the rapidly evolving area of cloud, mobility and the consumerisation of IT. The focus will centre on how in practice this fusion of technologies can be harnessed and securely managed for maximum business value.
Designed for IT security professionals and executives, the conference also includes the key players in the cloud ecosystem, such as VMware, IBM, Cloud Security Alliance (NZ), Datacom, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Amazon Web Services, and Gen-i. Skycity and Healthscope will also share their insights.
With research continually highlighting security as the number one challenge for enterprises, the event discussion areas will canvass the critical issues facing the cloud, now and into the future. These include mobility, threat landscape, data centres, data jurisdiction, compliance, standardisation, risk reduction, and reaping the cloud benefits while protecting critical assets and sensitive data.
The Auckland event, part of the highly successful seven-city Trend Micro EVOLVE.Cloud event series across Australia and New Zealand, is free to attend, though registration is required. The Wellington event follows on 18 October.
Presenters include:
Sanjay Mehta, Managing Director, Trend Micro ANZ
Harish Agastya, Director of Data Centre Security, Trend Micro
Andrew Milroy, Vice President ICT Research, Frost & Sullivan, Asia Pacific
Rob Livingstone, cloud security adviser and author
Rizwan Ahmad, Director, Cloud Security Alliance - New Zealand Chapter
Sanjay Mehta, Managing Director, Trend Micro ANZ, said: “The security of the cloud is a critical issue for CIOs and IT managers. The EVOLVE.Cloud conference series aims to bring together the key industry thought leaders to inform and educate the market on the best practices and technologies to secure physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures. Securing the cloud will provide the confidence to enable business, government, and consumers to realise the full benefits of cloud computing.”
Andrew Milroy, Vice President ICT Research, Frost & Sullivan, Asia Pacific, said: “Cloud computing continues to gain traction, with New Zealand and Australia leading the APAC region for cloud adoption with a 43% adoption rate. The cloud computing market for those two countries is expected to grow at 35.3% for the 2011-2016 period, and be worth almost $3 billion. Cloud computing has been transforming businesses and industries for several years and this will continue, but at an increasing rate.”
Harish Arastya, Director of Data Centre Security, Trend Micro, said: “The rapid growth of data centres reflects the rising investment in cloud computing, but security issues need to be more widely discussed. The emerging trends we’re observing include data centre consolidation, patching overloads, compliance, and the sophisticated threat environment.”
Rob Livingstone, cloud security adviser and author, said: “Information assets are protected within the new cloud environments as long as the underlying security architecture has been designed for the cloud. However, the convergence of hybrid clouds, mobile devices and BYOD presents unique systemic risks for CIOs.”
