Christchurch winners take double honours at Z Energy People Awards
Outstanding young civil construction workers from Christchurch won double honours at the Z Energy People Awards 2012,
organised by the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation.
The awards, which recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals within the industry, have two categories - the
Leader of Tomorrow and Trainee of the Year.
The Leader of Tomorrow title was won by Daniel Lucas, aged 28, from Bryndwr, who works for Fulton Hogan. Daniel, who won
a trophy, certificate and $1,500, said he was delighted with the accolade.
“I make a conscious effort to regularly make time for one-on-one conversations with all crew members,” he said.
“I enjoy listening to each employee’s individual goals and take great pride in watching them achieve these knowing I
have assisted, whether it is a labourer gaining licenses or a project manager completing their project safely, on time
and making money. I am a strong believer that a happy worker is a productive worker.
“I’d like to thank Z Energy and InfraTrain, Fulton Hogan and my mentors who have made me the person I am today.”
Trainee of the Year was won by Jamie Campbell, 23, from St Albans, who works for McConnell Dowell Constructors and won a
trophy, certificate and $1000.
Jamie said that his training, combining practical and theoretical experience, had added a new dimension to his
employment.
“Working and studying is as much about personal development as it is about my career. It has opened me up to
opportunities to expand my horizons,” he said.
“I would like to thank Z Energy, InfraTrain New Zealand and McConnell Dowell for their investment in me. It’s a big
thing to invest in a person’s future and I hope to make a return on that investment for years to come.”
The award winners were announced at the NZCF 68th annual conference held at the Marlborough Convention Centre in
Blenheim.
