Finalists announced for the
2012 Roading Excellence Awards
Fourteen exceptional finalists will compete in the 2012 Roading Excellence Awards in Auckland, Roading New Zealand announced today.
Projects across Auckland, Waikato, Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu took out the finalist spots in the six categories.
Competition head judge Dr Robin Dunlop said the standard of entries this year was very high.
“Despite the tough economic conditions the industry is facing, we continue to see innovative and dynamic projects across the sector. It’s great to see the depth of skill, expertise and leadership growing each year,” Mr Dunlop said.
The finalists will compete across six categories:
• Hirequip Best Practice Award for Environmental Sustainability
• Best Practice Award for People in association with InfraTrain New Zealand
• Road Controlling Authority Forum (NZ) Best Practice Award for Asset Management
• Winstone Aggregates Excellence Award for a Minor Road Project
• Maccaferri Excellence Award for a Medium Road Project
• Z Energy Excellence Award for a Major Road Project
Each category winner and the Supreme Winner for 2012 will be announced at an award dinner at the Langham Hotel in Auckland, on 27 August.
Roading New Zealand chief executive Chris Olsen said the high number of finalists that are joint entries highlighted a growing trend towards collaboration across the industry, to improve efficiency and value-for-money.
“This year’s awards highlight the very best of the roading industry, and I hope they inspire others to provide the same world-leading ideas and projects, which will benefit the sector for years to come,” Mr Olsen said.
“We are looking forward to showcasing these finalists on 27 August.”
The Roading Excellence Awards are open to all organisations involved in the delivery of roading projects in New Zealand and seek to promote leadership, excellence and best practice in the provision of land transport infrastructure.
