Press release, 3 August 2012, Canterbury
Software Cluster, Christchurch, New Zealand:
The biggest and best business-technology event in
Christchurch, the annual Canterbury Software Summit, is
readying to top last year’s record-breaking success.
Last year’s Software Summit was the Canterbury Software Cluster’s most successful ever, attracting nearly 500 attendees. This year, on 4 October at Addington Events Centre, our theme “from Startup to Global” will encapsulate the journey of many successful and aspiring technology leaders, including Jonty Kelt, CEO and co-founder of Group Commerce, who will deliver our keynote. And with three streams of insightful and inspiring presentations, there will be something for everyone – from innovators and entrepreneurs to managers and developers.
Organisation is well underway with confirmed speakers so far from Vend, Carnival Labs, Xero, Orion Health, PayGlobal, Tait Communications, NZVIF, Security Assessments and AdScale.
In response to requests for more specialised technical content, the Summit’s popular Business and Technology streams will this year be joined by a third stream of technical presentations. The new Agile stream will feature speaker presentations on Scrum software development process implementations at Tait Radio Communications, AdScale, and more.
This year the Summit will again feature a
partnership with the University Commercialisation Offices of
New Zealand (UCONZ). The group, which aims to create
stronger university research and business partnerships, will
host the evening networking programme with presentations on
research capabilities, projects and innovations from across
the country. Presentations vary across a broad range of
innovations, including software, electronics,
nanotechnology, robotics, biotechnology, human / machine
interfaces, geospatial information systems and computer
vision.
“There is no other event in Christchurch where
business and technology professionals can gather to watch
this calibre and variety of presentation, and at the same
time see the new ideas that are coming out of the tertiary
sector,” says Ben Reid, Chair of the Canterbury Software
Cluster Committee. “We thought it might be tough to top
our success in 2011, but the strength of that event - the
largest on the national Rutherford Innovation Showcase
calendar - raised the Summit’s profile across New Zealand,
making it easier for us to attract top quality speakers to
come to Christchurch this year. It’s simply an exciting
time to be on the Canterbury tech scene.”
John Duncan, UCONZ coordinator and University of Canterbury Business Development Manager says, “The Software Summit is a unique opportunity for the universities to showcase our achievements and abilities in front of hundreds of Canterbury technology businesses in one go, and it has led to numerous new business-research partnerships. We were impressed with the scale and professional quality of the event last year and eager to be part of it again in 2012.”

Registration is free for Canterbury Software and UCONZ members, and $95 for non-members (including GST). Alternatively, non-members can join the Canterbury Software cluster from as little as $86.25 (including GST) for one year’s membership, and get free entry to the Summit as well as all monthly cluster networking events.
The event is made possible
through the hard work of the voluntary Canterbury Software
Cluster committee, and the generous contributions of
sponsors: UCONZ, SLI
Systems, Clarus, AdScale, PayGlobal, Trineo,
NZTE
and CDC.
About the Canterbury Software
Summit
Since 2002 the annual Canterbury Software Summit has been organised by the voluntary committee of the Canterbury Software Cluster. It is a popular half-day conference and networking event. It provides technology entrepreneurs, developers and IT professionals alike the opportunity to learn from, be inspired by, and connect with accomplished individuals from startups to global organisations. Networking is, of course, one of the major highlights of this event and organisers are keen to ensure plenty of opportunity for attendees to mingle with others in the technology sector.
Since 2011 the Summit has partnered with the University Commercialisation Offices of New Zealand (UCONZ) who host the evening networking event and display. The aim of UCONZ and the University-Business Partnerships Initiative is to create stronger university and business partnerships by helping to bring business needs together with university research and identify matches to create value in the New Zealand economy.
The event opens at 11.45am with the main
programme kicking off at 12.15pm, and runs through to 5:30
in the evening, followed by the UCONZ sponsored networking
event from 5.30pm - 8pm. Light lunch, refreshments, drinks
and canapés and Wi-Fi will be provided. To register visit
