North businesses are on the menu at Food Show

Six local businesses will help promote Auckland’s bourgeoning boutique food industry at next week’s Food Show.

The artisan food companies, showcasing everything from sweet fennel sausages to macadamia nut butter will be based at a special Auckland on the Menu stand, subsidised by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED).

Mahurangi Oysters, Nuts about New Zealand, Salumeria Fontana, Mustardmakers, Heron’s Flight and The Little Epicurean Foodstore will sell their delicacies at the four day show, heralded as New Zealand’s national food and wine event, along with six other businesses from across the region.

The Auckland on the Menu products will also be showcased by celebrity chef Ray McVinnie at a special demonstration - Food Styling Fundamentals - during the show.

ATEED’s Rural Development Specialist, Leanna Covacich, says the experience will benefit the businesses individually as well as being good for Auckland.

“There are hundreds of emerging artisan food and beverage businesses across Auckland, with a large number of these based in the north. These companies have the potential to develop into larger, sustainable businesses offering New Zealand made quality products which is great for the local and regional economy,” she says.

“ATEED is supporting these businesses at The Food Show so they can get their product into the mouths of new food fans, which in turn will raise their profile, and potentially open doors to new opportunities.”
