Wellington Airport
Regional Awards open for
2012
Mayor Jenny Rowan is
calling on the public to nominate individuals and community
groups for the forth-coming Wellington Airport Regional
Awards.
“This is a great time for people to celebrate and thank some of our many fantastic Kapiti volunteers,” she says.
The annual awards are run by Wellington International Airport Limited in partnership with the Wellington Community Trust and the five local councils in the region, including Kapiti Coast District Council.
Mayor Rowan says the Awards aim to reward the valuable contribution made by volunteers and are open to not-for-profit groups or organisations working in the interests of the community.
Nominations can be submitted by individuals or other groups in five categories: heritage & environment, health & well-being, arts & culture, sports & leisure, and education & child/youth development.
The first round of judging to select local category winners will be done by a panel in each of the five local councils. The winners each receive $500 and a certificate and will be presented with their awards at the Annual Civic Awards dinner at the Paraparaumu Golf Club on September 6.
From this pool an overall winner will be chosen from each category area. These winners will be invited to the regional awards function at the Wellington Airport. The winners in this round will receive a further $500 and another framed certificate. The five overall winners then go into the TrustPower National Awards – to be held early in 2013.
Mayor Rowan says the Awards provide a very positive focus for the community. “I strongly encourage people to nominate organisations that have made a difference to Kapiti and give them the support they rightly deserve,” she said.
