London beckons for New Zealand Business Journalist

The British High Commission and Air New Zealand Business Journalism scholarship at London’s Financial Times is now open.

The scholarship, in its second year, gives the successful candidate ten days in London to work on a series of stories for New Zealand consumption.

The British High Commissioner, Mrs Vicki Treadell says this is a great opportunity for New Zealand journalists who are interested in the British economy and its modern links to New Zealand.

”For our part we see it as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen links between the UK and New Zealand and we are keen to ensure that contemporary Britain is better understood.”

This scholarship will also provide the winning business journalist the unique opportunity to be part of the Financial Times’ operation. They will gain a unique insight into British economic and business reporting from the UK’s leading business broadsheet.

Last year’s winner, Catherine Harris, from the Fairfax group, had five major stories published on everything from immigration to shopping in London.

Air New Zealand’s Head of Public Affairs Mark Street says the airline is pleased to again offer a return airfare for this important scholarship.

The High Commission will support the successful applicant with accommodation and per diems.

We would invite applicants from your business teams to submit a written proposal for the stories they would like to research and write in the United Kingdom by the 3rd of August. Candidates should apply to the British High Commissioner, PO Box 1812, Wellington 6140.
