Gen-i Joins Arbor Networks' Cloud Signaling Coalition
New Zealand's Gen-i Joins Arbor Networks' Cloud Signaling(SM) Coalition to Stop the Evolving DDoS Threat to Data Centers
Cloud Signaling(SM) Technology Connects On-Premise and In-Cloud DDoS Attack Mitigation Infrastructures, Delivering Comprehensive Protection
CHELMSFORD, MA -- (Marketwire) -- Jul 16, 2012 -- Arbor Networks, Inc., a leading provider of network security and management solutions for enterprise and service provider networks, announced today that Gen-i, a division of Telecom New Zealand Limited, has joined Arbor's Cloud Signaling Coalition. The Cloud Signaling Coalition (CSC) is an innovative partnership between service providers, datacenter operators and enterprises with the mission to ensure the availability of their network infrastructure and speed time-to-mitigation for distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
Gen-i provides a wide range of hosted and integrated ICT solutions to business and government organizations, including business continuity, cloud computing, contact center, collaboration, data center and mobility services. From a security services perspective, Gen-i believes that enterprises must secure the network perimeter in order take control of IT risk management. Gen-i's Safecom service is a suite of security-focused solutions, providing effective, robust protection for the network perimeter 24 hours a day.
Leanne Buer, Gen-i Head of Networked ICT Products, said, "Gen-i is committed to offering our clients ICT solutions that deliver real business outcomes. Our clients expect these services to be available, reliable and secure 24/7. We are pleased to participate in Arbor's Cloud Signaling Coalition. Arbor is an important part of our Safecom service and we see the CSC as an important tool that will help us further reduce time-to-mitigation for dynamic threats facing our client networks."
"The Cloud Signaling system is efficient and integrated, bridging the customer premise to the service provider cloud. Arbor is bringing its decade of DDoS mitigation experience in ISP networks to the enterprise at a time when availability threats are top of mind for network operators," said Nick Race, Arbor Networks' country manager for Australia and New Zealand.
World Leader in DDoS
Mitigation
Arbor Networks' 450 customers include the vast
majority of the world's ISPs and many of the largest
enterprise networks in use today. According to a recent
report from Infonetics Research titled, DDoS Prevention
Appliance Market Outlook, Arbor Networks was cited as "the
dominant leader for DDoS prevention" overall as well as in
the Carrier, Enterprise and Mobile market segments.
Cloud
Signaling Functionality: A Faster, Automated Way to Provide
Comprehensive DDoS Mitigation
At the heart of Cloud
Signaling functionality are Arbor Networks' Peakflow® SP
and Pravail™ Availability Protection System solutions.
Peakflow SP powers many of the world's leading cloud-based
DDoS managed security services, while Arbor's Pravail
Availability Protection System (APS) is an on-premise device
that protects the enterprise perimeter against threats to
availability -- specifically, protection against
application-layer distributed denial of service (DDoS)
attacks. Cloud Signaling functionality is an efficient and
integrated way of bridging the enterprise data center to the
service provider cloud. Cloud Signaling functionality
connects the on-premise Pravail APS device with the
cloud-based Peakflow SP solution, helping to ensure the
availability of enterprise infrastructures and speed
time-to-mitigation for DDoS attacks. Arbor believes that the
best way for enterprises, data center and cloud operators to
have optimal protection against DDoS attacks is through this
combination of on-premise and in-cloud protection.
Cloud
Signaling In Action: How does it work?
When an enterprise
or data center operator discovers that they are under a
service-disrupting DDoS attack, they can choose to mitigate
the attack in the cloud through the Cloud Signaling system,
triggering a signal to upstream infrastructure of their
service provider's network. A volumetric DDoS attack
congesting the upstream links would immediately diminish or
disappear altogether from the data center's access links,
and service availability would be protected. Participation
in the Cloud Signaling Coalition allows the service provider
to provide differentiated managed security services, reduces
the time to mitigation and increases the effectiveness of
the response against DDoS threats, thus saving the customer
from major operational expenses and helping to preserve
their reputation. Enterprise and managed services customers
also benefit from real time monitoring of the attack
mitigation, as well as granular post mortem reports with
details of the attack and the steps taken by the service
provider to mitigate the attack, keeping them in control and
maintaining their expertise in command of the event.
