Emirates Inaugurates New Link with Lisbon
Emirates, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, has further extended its European reach overnight by starting its first daily non-stop service to Lisbon, just six days after launching flights to Barcelona in neighbouring Spain.
“Emirates has become the only carrier in the Middle East operating into Portugal with a daily non-stop service, doing more than just transporting passengers from one point to another, but also opening trade opportunities that didn’t exist before,” said Thierry Antinori, Emirates’ Executive Vice President Passenger Sales Worldwide.
All four daily Emirates flights from New Zealand provide direct connections at Dubai with the Lisbon departure.
Emirates will serve Lisbon with a Boeing 777-200ER offering 274 seats in a three-class configuration. Flight EK 191 leaves Dubai at 9.15am each day and arrives in Lisbon at 2.45pm local time. The return flight, EK 192, departs Lisbon at 5.55pm and gets into Dubai at 4.35am local time the next day.
With more than 1,200 weekly departures from Emirates’ exclusive Terminal 3 in Dubai, next year will see the opening of the world’s first dedicated A380 concourse. Offering seamless connectivity for customers, it will also stimulate new demand across the Emirates’ network.
Portugal’s economy will receive a lift from the new service, with a boost to inbound tourism. Portugal’s main exports feature textiles, clothing, wood products, machinery, tools and electrical equipment. Emirates SkyCargo, offering 17 tonnes of belly-hold capacity in the 777-200ER, will be on hand to assist importers and exporters.
With a fleet of 176 aircraft and already the largest Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 operator in the world, Emirates currently flies to 125 destinations in 74 countries. With an order for 50 new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft placed at the Dubai Airshow 2011, Emirates now has 227 aircraft on order, worth over US$62 billion at list prices.
