NZ Bus Committed to its Staff

NZ Bus has met with representatives of the Auckland Tramways Union and First Union, on three scheduled occasions over 8 days, to agree a new Collective Agreement for our people. These unions represent bus drivers employed by NZ Bus in Auckland. The unions have pushed hard on claims for its members but negotiations have been constructive to date with good progress made in most areas. The current agreement expires in July.

Today a paid stop work meeting of union members was held at Alexandra Park, where Tramways and First Union members failed to ratify the new Collective Agreement. The offer from NZ Bus would have placed its people amongst the top earners in the industry in Auckland.

“While NZ Bus is obviously disappointed that the proposed new Collective Agreement has not been ratified, we are committed to working with the unions to agree a way forward” said Shane McMahon COO NZ Bus.

NZ Bus is committed to moving wages forward while also securing a long term future for its people, and continues to make substantial investments in new Fleet, Facilities, Health and Safety and Training.

“NZ Bus will seek to re-engage with the union negotiating team as quickly as possible in order to reach an agreement that satisfies the needs of both parties, avoids any disruption to commuters and encourages the unions to do the same” concluded Mr. McMahon.
