High revving racers secure Honda partnership

High revving racers secure Honda partnership

Honda New Zealand is to become an official partner of the Motul Honda Cup - one of the fastest growing motorsport championships in New Zealand.

The iconic Japanese brand will be launching four new models over the coming year, on the back of the already launched Civic sedan and the sporty new CRZ. July is a busy month for Honda with the all new Euro Civic hatch, two new models of the well proven CRV being released and City and V6 Accord back in stock.

"Motul Honda Cup has a nice synergy with CRZ's "Play in the real world" slogan, which is what the organisers and drivers in the Honda Cup are doing in a great safe environment," explained Graeme Meyer, Head of Marketing.

"They are all great enthusiasts for Honda and racing, and have worked hard to make their series thrive during difficult times globally for motorsport. We are pleased to be supporting a great race class."

Honda New Zealand will support the series with a CRZ Course and Safety car and access to parts and expertise used widely on the racing cars during 2012-2013 Summer Championship, which includes many contemporary models as well as older machinery this year.

The new CRZ Honda Cup Safety car will make its public debut at the forthcoming Speedshow event at the ASB Showgrounds, before becoming a working part of the Honda Cup winter and summer series.

"The recognition and support we will receive from Honda New Zealand is huge news for us," said Series Director Alan Stewart.

"We have created the biggest one-make Japanese racing class in New Zealand and after a hugely successful debut summer season, we are expanding with a winter series in the South Island and continuing our rookie-focussed winter series in the North.

"We have major objectives for the Motul Honda Cup that focus on close, exciting and value for money racing and we could not do that if the basic product wasn't top notch. Honda is famed for its reliability and performance as a brand and has a long and successful heritage in motorsport all over the world. To be waving the flag as an officially recognised Honda series is really a huge step forward for us."
