John Andrew Ford & Mazda Charity Black Tie Dinner for Camp Quality Proves a Huge Success
27 June 2012 - What price would you put on a now hard-to-find icon Kiwi household product? How about $350 for a 220gram jar of Marmite!
That was among the items put up for auction at a Black Tie Charity Dinner organised recently by John Andrew Ford & Mazda with proceeds going to Camp Quality, a not-for-profit volunteer organisation which provides a wide range of support programmes for children living with cancer.
The evening raised more than $100,000 for the charity, which Camp Quality New Zealand chairman Gary Troup describes as “an unbelievable result exceeding all expectations. The generosity and spontaneity of John Andrew Ford & Mazda, their supplier partners and guests was a truly remarkable and humbling experience. We are overwhelmed by the support.”
He also paid tribute to new CQ Auckland/Northland Regional Manager Geoff Barnett and his team. The auction raised $60,000 and later Ford, Mazda, Automotive Holdings Group and other businesses pledged a further $40,000.
The money will go towards summer camps the organisation arranges each year at a cost of close to $600,000 for around 300 children aged 5-16 living with cancer plus an equal number of highly trained companions and staff.
Mr Troup says the key activity “across our five regions are the week-long summer camps which seek to give the youngsters hope for the future and a rich source of wonderful memories to sustain them as they continue their medical treatment.”
According to Child Cancer Foundation statistics, around 150 young New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer each year. Camp Quality passionately believes in the power of fun to help these children and their families overcome the challenges cancer brings.
