Wellington Zoo
Recognised for Record Breaking Year
An international award for exceptional traveller ratings has topped off what has already been a record breaking year for Wellington Zoo.
The TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence acknowledges the consistent top ratings from visitors around the world, and Wellington Zoo is proud to be ranked by visitors to be among the very best in 2012.
“We’ve had an amazing, record breaking year,” said Karen Fifield, Chief Executive. “We are connecting more people with nature than ever before, with over 215,000 visitors, more members, and more online fans.”
“This award really is the icing on the cake, and a great way for the efforts of all our team to be recognised,” Ms Fifield shared. “Despite the tough financial times we have all faced, we are finding that the experience at the Zoo is resonating positively with our community – evidenced by this acknowledgement.”
“We are so proud that Wellington is getting behind the Zoo, and we want to acknowledge the support of Wellington City Council for their support in making our Zoo such a special place.”
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown applauded the Zoo’s achievements. “Wellington Zoo is a marvellous window on the natural world and its conservation messages continue to resonate with all ages,” she says.
Positively Wellington Tourism Chief Executive David Perks says this award demonstrates Wellington Zoo's importance not only as a fantastic place for Wellingtonians to enjoy, but also as a world-class visitor destination.
“Wellington Zoo has undertaken some great developments recently, including work on the new Asia Precinct which will include a brand new ASB Malayan Sun Bear exhibit and revamped Pub Charity Sumatran Tiger exhibit for visitors to enjoy later this year.”
“This recognition for
exceptional traveller ratings shows Wellington really does
have the 'best little zoo in the world'."
