EMBARGOED UNTIL 12.00 NOON, FRIDAY 22 JUNE 2012

New CEO Appointed Waitangi At National Trust

Following a short and yet extensive search the Waitangi National Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg McManus as its new CEO.

Mr McManus, the current Director of the Rotorua Museum of Art and History, comes to the position with experience at both a national and international level. His achievements while at the Rotorua Museum have seen that institution become one of the leading attractions for visitors to the Rotorua region.

In making the announcement, the Chairman of the Waitangi National Trust Board, Mr Pita Paraone, said “The Board is delighted to have been able to appoint someone of the calibre of Greg McManus. His achievements in raising the status of the Rotorua Museum as a leading tourist attraction for the area are testament to what his appointment will mean for Waitangi and indeed Northland.”

Mr McManus comes to Waitangi with an impressive mix of commercialism, entrepreneurship, marketing, museology and cultural skills. “His record in working with the Te Arawa Confederation of iwi will be of significant value when working with the iwi,” Mr Paraone said.

Mr McManus will officially commence his role as CEO on 6 August but is expected to visit Waitangi in the interim to meet staff, local iwi and the Board.
