What’s not to love about nuts?
If you’re not already nuts about nuts, then the people behind Alison’s Pantry are out to convert you. A new ‘I love
nuts’ campaign is underway to encourage New Zealanders to eat more of this convenient and nutritious food.
Shoppers will start seeing ‘I love nuts’ stickers on the Alison’s Pantry self selection department along with in-store
sampling teams handing out product samples and information in New World and Pak’N Save supermarkets over the coming
weeks. The 12 week ‘I love nuts’ campaign aims to highlight the benefits of eating a handful of nuts each day as part of
a healthy diet.
Sue Pollard, CEO of the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation, says there are so many good reasons to eat nuts and she
recommends them as part of a healthy diet.
“Unsalted nuts are a versatile and nutritious food to have in the pantry – the great thing about them is you only need a
small handful to get a range of vitamins, protein, fibre, iron and antioxidants. They also contain essential good fats
for a healthy heart, brain and general wellbeing.
“There are many different types of nuts to choose from but they are all delicious, convenient and affordable treats for
entertaining, cooking, work and school lunchboxes,” she adds.
The value, freshness and quality of Alison’s Pantry nuts means that just 30 grams, or a handful each day, which costs
less than $1, is all that’s needed to complement a healthy lifestyle. Thirty grams of nuts equates to around 20 almonds
or 15 cashews.
Pollard offers several ways to incorporate nuts into a daily diet which include adding almonds to green beans give
crunchy texture and extra protein, including peanuts or cashews to a stir-fry meal or curry, replacing croutons with
walnuts in salads or soups, or adding them to baking and fruit crumble toppings, cereal, smoothies, ice cream or yoghurt
to add nutritional value to a treat.
