Herbert Insurance Group Clarification

The Insurance Council of New Zealand has today sought to clarify the status of insurance brokerage, Herbert Insurance Group, an insurance broking company with registered offices in Auckland.

Herbert Insurance Group is an insurance broker and not an insurance company as has been incorrectly reported in some media coverage of the company to date, the Insurance Council of New Zealand said in a statement released today to news media.

An insurance broker is an intermediary appointed by a person seeking insurance to advise them on insurance matters and to arrange insurance cover for them. An insurer is the actual provider of the insurance. Insurance Brokers pass on premiums received from customers to insurers.

Herbert Insurance Group are not and have never been a member of the Insurance Council of New Zealand because they are not an insurance company.
