Coopers Creek flying high with Cathay Pacific
Business class travellers on Cathay Pacific will soon be enjoying Marlborough
Sauvignon Blanc at 30,000 feet, thanks to Coopers Creek Vineyard.
Coopers Creek Vineyard has secured a major Business Class supply contract with Cathay Pacific Airways, the world’s third
largest airline, for its Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The airline flies to 114 destinations in 36 countries worldwide
and Coopers Creek wine will be served on its Asian, European, Middle East, India, Africa and New Zealand routes. The
first consignment has been delivered, with service commencing in June from Cathay Pacific’s Hong Kong hub.
Over 24,000 bottles of premium Coopers Creek Sauvignon Blanc will be served to a high-flying global audience of business
and premium travellers over the next twelve months. It will be joining prestigious wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy
including Château Lynch Bages and Vincent Girardin Puligny-Montrachet. Cathay Pacific serves over 1.4 million bottles of
wine per year on board its aircraft and an incredible 378,000 kg of beef, 625,000 kg of fresh vegetables and 78,230 kg
of ice-cream. That’s one very large shopping basket!
Coopers Creek already supplies Air New Zealand for in-flight service on its international routes and is no stranger to
satisfying the palates of wine lovers at altitude. Winemaker Simon Nunns comments “aircraft cabins are very dry, with
low humidity and our ‘house’ style focuses on elegance, balance and refinement, an ideal combination for that
environment”.
Coopers Creek Vineyard is a family owned, Kumeu-based winery that crafts a range of award winning fine wines: New
Zealand's favourite styles as well as intriguing emerging varietals. The winery is fuelling demand for stylish aromatics
such as Arneis, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Gris and Viognier, in addition to its outstanding pedigree with Chardonnay,
Syrah and Bordeaux reds. Coopers Creek is a major wine exporter, with almost 85% of its sales to international markets,
as well as being a widely known and popular brand in New Zealand.
