Kiwi motorists earn fuel discounts worth $14 million

AA Smartfuel has announced today that New Zealand motorists have earned $14 million of fuel discounts in the first six months of its nationwide fuel savings programme.

AA Smartfuel was launched on 7 November 2011 to help reduce the cost of fuel for motorists. Motorists swipe their AA Membership card, or their AA Smartfuel card, to accumulate cents per litre fuel discounts. Discounts are earned at retailers across New Zealand and the total value of all discounts can be redeemed when motorists next fill up at BP or Caltex.

Ian Sutcliffe, General Manager of AA Smartfuel, says AA Smartfuel is delighted by the results of the first six months of operation. “We had 747,090 motorists earning AA Smartfuel fuel discounts. The largest accumulation was $2.37 per litre – providing the motorist with $118.50 of free fuel when he redeemed the fuel discount. Another motorist has saved $1,118 off his fuel costs since the programme began, while two other motorists have saved $836 and $589.”

“Motorists have realised they can now add fuel discounts together and redeem the total amount, putting extra money in their wallets during very difficult economic times, thanks to AA Smartfuel and its partners.”

“Our retail partner village continues to grow. Since the programme began, we have welcomed Burger King, The New Zealand Herald, Office Products Depot, Pet Doctors, Vet Sign, Back Door Surf and Dynatron, along with a number of local pharmacies, cafes and restaurants. There are now over 1,350 retailers participating in the AA Smartfuel programme.
